More about my travels

After DC I drove to North Carolina with the intention of seeing the Outer Banks. I chose a hotel in Williamston NC which is one of the most economically depressed cities. I didn't know. There wasn't even a cool restaurant I could go to for dinner. Went the the Outer Banks the next day-about an hour and a half away. the drive was cool and the Outer Banks are like nothing I've ever seen! It was so cool to drive over the bridges connecting the islands. I didn't realize that I could drive for 5-6 hours across the Banks! I drove for an hour or so, went on a nature hike at Pea Island, then went back to Nags Head for lunch. Found the awesomest place Mama Kwan's Tiki Hut! Had a blackened Mahi Mahi fish taco. YUM! Went to the local airport and rented a 4 seater Cessna. It was just the pilot and I flying over Nags Head! OH SO VERYYYYYY COOOOL! He even let me "fly" the plane for a few minutes.

Drove to Myrtle Beach SC the next day. My hotel was right on the beach! I felt like a ROCK STAR and, of course, 10% cooler. I took a helicopter ride over Myrtle Beach! Oh the things I have seen and the things I have done!!! the beach at night was my FAV. There were people everywhere-still fishing, still swimming at 10 pm! I wasn't out much past midnight. Hung out with a couple of natives. It was neat to get their perspectives on the beach and tourists.

Then to my Aunt Snooks' house in Bluffton. It was SOOOOOO AMAZINGLY AWESOME to see her! My cousin Julie and her 6 year old daughter came for the weekend. We played at the pool, ate lotsa yummy food and just hung out. I've been to Hilton Head Island which seems prestigious (AND IS) but there are plenty of places for normal people like us to go.

OK I went to HH for the first time with my sis in law and niece. The waves were about 4-6 ft and the ocean temp was around 80F! Yeah- 80!!! Body surfing was AWESOME! Jellyfish alert was out. Of course I got stung by a jellyfish. You can't see them b/c the water is pretty murky. I didn't feel a thing until my foot started BURNING! It hurt like (bad words bad words bad words)! It was a small sting but jeezum crow in the mornin did it ever burn! Didn't last long and I still have a scar/rash.

Enough for now. I'm off to the pool:D

  1. Hey Jane-Ann!!!
Really enjoyed reading about your adventures, thus far. It is so good to see that you are having fun and enjoying new experiences. Sorry to hear about that jellyfish, thing, though...my 17-yr-old son can probably relate to that--when he was 5 yrs. old we visited Florida and he got stung by one. He literally was screaming for about 10 minutes! A doctor we spoke to described the experience of being stung by one like this: "Imagine you have just grabbed a hot curling iron and held on to it for awhile." Kyle had that scar for quite some time from where the jellyfish tentacles wrapped around him.

Well, take care--keep us posted on all your adventures--we'll be looking forward to hearing more!!
