More about my travels

After DC I drove to North Carolina with the intention of seeing the Outer Banks. I chose a hotel in Williamston NC which is one of the most economically depressed cities. I didn't know. There wasn't even a cool restaurant I could go to for dinner. Went the the Outer Banks the next day-about an hour and a half away. the drive was cool and the Outer Banks are like nothing I've ever seen! It was so cool to drive over the bridges connecting the islands. I didn't realize that I could drive for 5-6 hours across the Banks! I drove for an hour or so, went on a nature hike at Pea Island, then went back to Nags Head for lunch. Found the awesomest place Mama Kwan's Tiki Hut! Had a blackened Mahi Mahi fish taco. YUM! Went to the local airport and rented a 4 seater Cessna. It was just the pilot and I flying over Nags Head! OH SO VERYYYYYY COOOOL! He even let me "fly" the plane for a few minutes.

Drove to Myrtle Beach SC the next day. My hotel was right on the beach! I felt like a ROCK STAR and, of course, 10% cooler. I took a helicopter ride over Myrtle Beach! Oh the things I have seen and the things I have done!!! the beach at night was my FAV. There were people everywhere-still fishing, still swimming at 10 pm! I wasn't out much past midnight. Hung out with a couple of natives. It was neat to get their perspectives on the beach and tourists.

Then to my Aunt Snooks' house in Bluffton. It was SOOOOOO AMAZINGLY AWESOME to see her! My cousin Julie and her 6 year old daughter came for the weekend. We played at the pool, ate lotsa yummy food and just hung out. I've been to Hilton Head Island which seems prestigious (AND IS) but there are plenty of places for normal people like us to go.

OK I went to HH for the first time with my sis in law and niece. The waves were about 4-6 ft and the ocean temp was around 80F! Yeah- 80!!! Body surfing was AWESOME! Jellyfish alert was out. Of course I got stung by a jellyfish. You can't see them b/c the water is pretty murky. I didn't feel a thing until my foot started BURNING! It hurt like (bad words bad words bad words)! It was a small sting but jeezum crow in the mornin did it ever burn! Didn't last long and I still have a scar/rash.

Enough for now. I'm off to the pool:D

July 27, 2010

I am getting used to the world down here. It has been unreasonably hot since I arrived a week and a half ago. The heat index reaches 105F every day. I have never lived in such a hot place!
I have posted a couple of blogs but evidently did it incorrectly cause nothing showed up on my site. I'm thinking I have it figured it out now.
I had a blast making my way to SC! I stopped the first night in Boston and stayed with my friend Aunty Adair. The next morning I left around 8:30 and drove to NYC. The first stop I made that morning was at WalMart (I know, I know...I try my best to not go there but I had to). I bought a Garmin (gps) and it was the smartest $100 I have spent in awhile. I made it to my cousin Hopper's place by 3 or 4. I spent until Sunday with him. One night we took the 10:30 Staten Island ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. That was a cool ride. After that we walked through Battery Park and to Ground Zero. It was so eerie to see that hole in the city. We really walked a lot that night. We took a cab home because we were just so walked out. That is when I lost my wallet! I paid the cab fare, put my money back in my wallet and put my wallet in my bag. Guess it didn't make it into my bag. I realized the next day around noon that my wallet wasn't with my stuff. That really sucked! Thank goodness I had made copies of everything! Seriously!!! Those copies have come in soooooo handy! I had some money wired to me from a friend in Maine, cancelled the things I needed to cancel and continued on my trip.
I drove to Washington DC on the fourth of July and stayed with my cousin Andy. I went with him to a cookout that night at his friend's house. A group of us walked to the Potomac to watch fireworks. The fireworks were kind of far away but I could see at least a dozen displays across the river. That was kind of neat! I spent a week at Andy's. Hung out a few night with my sister and brother in law Steve. Went to a Washington Nationals baseball game cause Andy is one of the mascots. Amy, Steve and I felt like celebrities when Andy came to see us in his costume. Out of costume in the ninth inning he brought us down to seats right behind third base! Not the bleachers-they were behind us. We were RIGHT THERE next to the field! Awesome!!!

I am thoroughly sick of typing. I'll get back to you later.

I have been having an amazing trip from Maine to SC! I stayed in Boston my first night. Man! That seems likes months ago. From there I went to NYC to stay with my cousin Hopper. We had a great long weekend and that is where I lost my wallet. Lost/not stolen. Luckily I made copies of everything I keep in my wallet and was able to cancel credit cards and such. Washington DC after that to stay with cousin Andy. That was COOL! I was able to tour during the day and hang with Andy and/or my sister Amy at night. It was the hottest weather I think I've ever been in. 106F on the day I chose to do most of my touring. I've been in Williamston NC since yesterday. Went to the Outer Banks today. Very amazing! I wish I had known more because I would've packed the Jeep and driven the miles through the Outer Banks to take a ferry to my next destination.
It has been a lot of driving! My right leg is sore from remaining in the same position while driving. I'm going to Myrtle Beach next and think I may need to stay in Wilmington tomorrow.
I still can't believe how fortunate I am to be able to do this. I have to remind myself of this.

2 July 2010

I left Maine Wednesday! Driving past the state line hurt! I turned around to see the "Maine The Way Life Should Be" sign and broke into tears! I stayed that night in Boston with one of my dear friends. Thursday I left around 9. Stopped at Walmart (yeah I hate to admit it) and bought a Garmin. (GPS) That was one of the most brilliant items I have purchased in some time! It DEFINITELY saved my ass driving into NYC! I am getting used to consistently driving 75-80mph on the highways. I stopped in Danbury CT for lunch. From there it was really less than 2 hours to Hopper's house. I had to cross over 7 lanes of thick NY traffic within .02 miles (like a block and a half) to make a right turn! That was a TRIP!
Hopper and I went out on the town last night along with his roommate. We had a BLAST! This city is never-ending! We came home around 1 and stayed up talking until the sun was rising. Today has been relaxing...yummy early dinner. I think tonight we might go out on the Staten Island ferry. Nice night for an evening!

My last day at Zenith!

I want you all to know how amazingly bittersweet today has been! I cleaned my desk out! I emptied the middle top drawer of my desk--there were so many useful useless items found! I am looking forward to the next days as I decompress from school and continually look forward to my big adventure!
This is my very first blogging extravaganza. Bear with me as I figure this whole thing out.
