My big adventure

July 27, 2010

I am getting used to the world down here. It has been unreasonably hot since I arrived a week and a half ago. The heat index reaches 105F every day. I have never lived in such a hot place!
I have posted a couple of blogs but evidently did it incorrectly cause nothing showed up on my site. I'm thinking I have it figured it out now.
I had a blast making my way to SC! I stopped the first night in Boston and stayed with my friend Aunty Adair. The next morning I left around 8:30 and drove to NYC. The first stop I made that morning was at WalMart (I know, I know...I try my best to not go there but I had to). I bought a Garmin (gps) and it was the smartest $100 I have spent in awhile. I made it to my cousin Hopper's place by 3 or 4. I spent until Sunday with him. One night we took the 10:30 Staten Island ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. That was a cool ride. After that we walked through Battery Park and to Ground Zero. It was so eerie to see that hole in the city. We really walked a lot that night. We took a cab home because we were just so walked out. That is when I lost my wallet! I paid the cab fare, put my money back in my wallet and put my wallet in my bag. Guess it didn't make it into my bag. I realized the next day around noon that my wallet wasn't with my stuff. That really sucked! Thank goodness I had made copies of everything! Seriously!!! Those copies have come in soooooo handy! I had some money wired to me from a friend in Maine, cancelled the things I needed to cancel and continued on my trip.
I drove to Washington DC on the fourth of July and stayed with my cousin Andy. I went with him to a cookout that night at his friend's house. A group of us walked to the Potomac to watch fireworks. The fireworks were kind of far away but I could see at least a dozen displays across the river. That was kind of neat! I spent a week at Andy's. Hung out a few night with my sister and brother in law Steve. Went to a Washington Nationals baseball game cause Andy is one of the mascots. Amy, Steve and I felt like celebrities when Andy came to see us in his costume. Out of costume in the ninth inning he brought us down to seats right behind third base! Not the bleachers-they were behind us. We were RIGHT THERE next to the field! Awesome!!!

I am thoroughly sick of typing. I'll get back to you later.
